Black
and Blue
Bangle Series
I made this series of three bangles to exhibit in the
Community Arts Education faculty show at
Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute in Utica, NY,
where I teach. Since these were to be on display along
with work by my fellow faculty members, I wanted to
come up with work that I felt would really challenge my
capabilities as a craftsperson.
I knew I wanted to work with acrylic as it is my current
passion. After some mulling, I decided on doing a
series of bangles, all in the same color palette, each
with different construction.
Each of these bangles, with its turquoise against black,
makes me think of the sky at that certain hour, when a
light-infused, intense blue line bumps against the black
of the night sky. And for those who like things a bit
more down-to-earth, they make me think of fabulous
fifties cars, too! The square bangle is all acrylic. The
round and triangular bangles are acrylic, anodized
aluminum and sterling silver.
It took approximately 30 hours, a certain amount of
consternation, some desperation, lots of sandpaper
and some swearing to complete this series. They will
be on display in the gallery of the studio building at
Munson-Williams-Proctor from June 13 until July 22,
2005. After that, they will be available for sale,
separately or as a set. Prices will be listed on this site.
